Silverlight and The History of Visual Basic

If you've looked at the Silverlight poster, you've probably noticed the list of languages supported by the new Dynamic Language Runtime (DLR). The last one on this list made me stop and think for a while - what is VBx?

VBx is the new dynamic Visual Basic language set for release after the Orcas (Visual Basic 9)  timeframe and the 'x' is of course the roman numeral for 10 - as in Mac OS X. However it might seem that the Visual Basic team has forgotten their history. Back in the days of Visual Basic 1.0 through 3.0 VBX, or Visual Basic Extension, was the component model used to extend the language. So what is the difference between VBx and VBX? Nothing, after all Visual Basic is a case insensitive language.

Silverlight: Don't call it a comeback, I've been here for years! :-)
