Reignite the browser wars
If running Windows apps "inside" Mac OS with Parallels wasn't enough, Apple have just reignited the browser wars by releasing a beta of their Safari browser for Windows XP and Vista.
I've given it a test-drive, but I haven't experienced the same blazing fast performance as the Hanselman.
The current version is clearly a beta. Many sites, including this blog, don't look too good in Safari (at least not on my Windows XP). My favorite thing so far is Apple's homegrown font rendering software which is much better than Windows ClearType. Compare these two snippets from my previous blog post:
The image to the left is from Safari, while the other one is from Firefox.
While the Windows version still has some way to go, Safari on the Mac is great. When it gets more mature, I'm seriously considering to swap - but then again, my next laptop will probably be a Mac rather than a PC. (If you look at the screenshot above you can tell that I suffer from serious Mac-envy :)
Update: It seems that Jeff "Coding Horror" Atwood has a different view on this. Read "What's wrong with Apple's font rendering?"
